Control Emotion, Control Money

As the saying goes, “If you can’t control your emotions, you can’t control your money.”

I don’t like it, I don’t want it, I think, I feel etc. It’s the feeling, it’s the emotion, it’s fragile and unstable, that’s why our money, our savings are at risk. Having a high level of financial literacy without being able to control our emotions generally doesn’t help us at all.
When approaching money as an investment in this age of climate crisis, it is wiser to start with practice awareness, understanding and reasoning.

But how?
Be with the problem and we will gain the insight.
I volunteered for the @hara.makers & @reimagineplasticproject event. I participated in their sungai keroh’s river cleanup in KTM segambut. I have experienced adding recycle plastic bottles to make Christmas trees and experience creating hot air balloon panels with single used plastic. This experience made me realize that this is not a climate crisis problem, but a crisis of our mentality.

In the river,
The water appears to be clear and transparent, but when check deeply it’s polluted.
There’s an unpleasant smell, it is not strong, but it is enough to pollute my peace.
I collect the garbage piece by piece; all of these looked familiar. We thought that we throw away the garbage, but that’s no away, it is all here right in front of my eye.

When surrounded by all the garbage and plastic, the feeling is disturbing and burdensome.
It gave me space to contemplate the way we consume, and the way we think directly affects the quality of river water, which has a major impact on the sustainability of water resources and human life. Garbage and river water pollution is a serious problem in Malaysia. The most dangerous problem is denying it is a problem when we recognize it. Our mentality is completely polluted. This is normal as knowing and doing are two different things. So, what next? We can’t just stop at knowing but doing nothing. We must cultivate ourselves to act accordingly.

One of the effective ways I’ve cultivate myself is by following @hara.makers closely on social media and other social enterprises that support a sustainable future and attending as many of their events as possible. Get more info, get more insight, support their business, and most important get more energy and influence from them to fight against my temptation to consumerism and materialism.
After years of cultivating myself, I have almost zero rubbish at home now. I would say, only 1 small bag a year. It takes me years because my mindset is polluted badly.
We still have time, but we can’t delay anymore.
The climate crisis is real, and it’s only going to get worse with our polluted mindset.
Let’s start cultivating ourselves more,
Allow ourselves to explore more climate risk.
Allow ourselves to connect and understand the work of social enterprises/NGOs who working hard for our common good.
Support, invest, and learn from them.
Our money and our investment will become worthwhile with deeper awareness, understanding and reasoning.

Prompt question:
1. How my lifestyle affects climate change?
2. How does climate change affect my investments?
